What is going on with BMWs Styling Department?

As 2022 goes on, BMW never fails to make a shocking design that makes everyone wonder what is going on at the styling department. People complained about the big grills and BMW just kept making them bigger. So how did we end up here? To start, we need to talk abut the 1960-2000s when BMW really started to make good looking cars such as the BMW 2002, the 507, the E30 M3, the M1, the 6-series, the 8-series, the E46 M3 and the lovely Z8. BMW was starting to make their brand a synonym for cool and good looking cars. And look what we have today.

The new BMW iX, M4, M3, and many more look horrible! Not among the worst-looking BMWs ever made, but the worst looking cars ever made, rivaling the Pontiac Aztek and Fiat Multipla. The main reason for this is the insanely big grille. The grills on new BMWs aren’t actually that big, they just look big compared to the headlights, and previous generations. When the 2019 BMW 7-Series came out – the first BMW to feature this “big but not big grille”- people complained about it and hated it so much! BMWs response to this was just to make the grilles even bigger, and people began to wonder why BMW was drowning its reputation. Was it for trends? Did the BMW styling department actually think that this looked good? Well eventually, we got that answer, and the chief of BMW’s styling department said to the public that “he wanted controversy” which I assume is for sales. But BMW has had great sales in the past, when it made good-looking cars, and even if it  increased sales, or got more people talking about BMW, this stunt has destroyed BMW’s reputation. However, BMW seems to have noticed this and is starting to make relatively-good-looking designs. For example, BMW made a wagon version of their M3, which still has the big grille, but like I said, it’s a wagon, which looks arguably better Tham the normal M3. BMW also mad a new 3.0 CSL, which is one of the best-looking BMWs ever made, and is highly sought-after. It also keeps the big grill, and it still doesn’t look very nice, but it looks a lot better than the grill on the M3 because it is much more elegant. So has BMW been playing us all along, was that just a short stunt, or were the 3.0 CSL and the Wagon just false rays of hope? I’ll leave that to you to decide.
